The best family hotels with pools on South Padre Island are the Holiday Inn Resort, Margaritaville Beach Resort, the Courtyard by Marriott and Isla Grand Beach Resort, and for toddlers the Holiday Inn Resort comes out ahead. It has three outdoor pools, one of them zero-entry, which is the easiest way into the water for a small child on this page, and shaded cabanas for six. Margaritaville has the biggest pool in the area, heated all year, with a kids area and a kiddie pool, and the Courtyard has a saltwater pool with a section for kids. Read the notes on each, because recent reviews of some rooms are rough.

Detailed Hotel Profiles
Every hotel below gets our own 1-10 rating for how genuinely relaxing it is to bring kids poolside. Not a generic star rating, but four specific things that actually matter to tired parents:
- Toddler Entry: How easy it is for small children to get in. Zero-entry pools, splash pads and shallow areas score highest.
- Lazy River: Whether there’s a lazy river or float feature, and how good it is.
- Shade Coverage: Cabanas, umbrellas, or covered areas so you’re not baking in direct sun all day.
- Lounge Chairs: How much comfortable poolside seating there actually is to relax in.
Holiday Inn Resort South Padre Island
The Holiday Inn Resort sits right on the beach. Some older reviews describe a lazy river and waterslides from the property’s Schlitterbahn years, but current listings and 2025 and 2026 reviews show none of that. What the hotel has today is three outdoor pools. It rates 3.7 out of 5 across 824 TripAdvisor reviews.
- What it’s like: A big, busy beach hotel with three on-site restaurants and a swim-up bar.
- The Pool: Three outdoor pools, one of them zero-entry, which is the easiest way into the water for a toddler on this page. The heated pool has the swim-up bar. Shaded cabanas rent from about $100 and hold six people. One guest in August 2025 found the zero-entry pool uncomfortably warm, close to 100 degrees.
- Rooms That Fit a Family: Standard hotel rooms, and kids under 19 stay free in their parents’ room.
- Walk to the Sand: Straight from the pool deck to the beach.
- Nearest Groceries: Blue Marlin Supermarket at 2912 Padre Boulevard is the one full-service grocery on the island. H-E-B and Walmart are across the causeway in Port Isabel.
- Tip: Book a cabana for the hottest afternoon. At about $100 for six people it is the only reliable shade on the deck.
What It Actually Costs: Parking is free. Beach chairs are extra, about $50 for two chairs and an umbrella.
Good to know: Recent reviews of the rooms are rough. Guests in 2025 and 2026 reported damp carpet, rust, a tiny bathroom and, in one July 2026 stay, roaches that meant two room changes. Look at the room as soon as you check in, and ask to move straight away if it is not right.
Skip It If: the room matters as much as the pool. The pools are the best reason to stay here, and the rooms are the weakest part of the hotel.
Courtyard by Marriott South Padre Island
The Courtyard is one of the newest beachfront hotels on the island, and it is the calm, practical choice on this page. It rates 4.0 out of 5 across 339 TripAdvisor reviews, the best of the four.
- What it’s like: Modern and quiet, with Bar Louie on site for dinner without the car.
- The Pool: A saltwater pool with a section for kids, umbrellas and sun loungers, open 9 in the morning to 11 at night. It is not large, and an August 2026 guest found it busy with people who were not staying at the hotel.
- Rooms That Fit a Family: Spacious rooms with balconies facing the ocean, the pool or the town, and reviewers praise how clean they are.
- Walk to the Sand: The hotel is on the beach.
- Nearest Groceries: Blue Marlin Supermarket at 2912 Padre Boulevard is the one full-service grocery on the island. H-E-B and Walmart are across the causeway in Port Isabel.
- Tip: Travel off-season if you can. Reviewers say breakfast is free then, which it is not in summer.
What It Actually Costs: Parking is $10 a day, and one August 2026 guest paid it for four days without ever finding a space in the lot. Beach chairs and umbrellas cost extra.
Good to know: The lot fills up in summer. Arrive early in the afternoon or plan to park on the street.
Skip It If: you want a big resort pool. This is a hotel with a nice pool, not a pool with a hotel.
Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island
Worth knowing first: the Pearl South Padre is now the Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island. It reopened under the new name on June 12, 2023, after a conversion that cost more than $30 million. It rates 3.7 out of 5 across 247 TripAdvisor reviews.
- What it’s like: Loud and cheerful. There is a DJ at the pool during the day and live music most nights until about 11.
- The Pool: The largest hotel pool in the area, heated all year, with a swim-up bar at the Salty Rim Bar & Grill, a separate kids area with a small kiddie pool, private cabanas and a Hammock Row under the palms. There is no lazy river or slide, whatever older listings say.
- Rooms That Fit a Family: Rooms and junior suites in the tower, plus 50 beachfront condos with one, two or three bedrooms and full kitchens, which are the ones to book with kids.
- Walk to the Sand: Oceanfront, straight onto the beach.
- Nearest Groceries: Blue Marlin Supermarket at 2912 Padre Boulevard is the one full-service grocery on the island. H-E-B and Walmart are across the causeway in Port Isabel.
- Tip: Joe Merchant’s Coffee & Provisions in the lobby covers breakfast and snacks, so the condo kitchen can stay clean.
What It Actually Costs: Valet parking is $25 a day and self-parking is a walk away. Beach chairs are about $50 a day for two chairs and an umbrella.
Good to know: The music that makes the afternoon fun is the thing that keeps small children awake. Ask for a room or condo away from the pool stage. Reviewers also report maintenance problems in some rooms and say the pool gets very crowded on holiday weekends.
Skip It If: your kids go to bed before the band does.
Isla Grand Beach Resort
Isla Grand has been on the beach for more than 60 years, and it shows in both directions. The grounds are well kept and the location is excellent, and some of the rooms are tired. It rates 3.9 out of 5 across 1,518 TripAdvisor reviews.
- What it’s like: A classic island resort with plenty to do. There are tennis and pickleball courts, sand volleyball, a game room and a nightclub with live bands, and in summer the kids get crafts, movies and sandcastle building.
- The Pool: Two outdoor pools and three hot tubs. The smaller pool is heated and the main pool is not, and one reviewer found it at 66 degrees.
- Rooms That Fit a Family: Rooms, suites and condos with full kitchens. Some buildings have no elevator to the second floor, so ask if you have a stroller.
- Walk to the Sand: The resort is on the beach.
- Nearest Groceries: Blue Marlin Supermarket at 2912 Padre Boulevard is the one full-service grocery on the island. H-E-B and Walmart are across the causeway in Port Isabel.
- Tip: The Windjammer restaurant has Gulf views and saves a drive at dinner.
What It Actually Costs: A $25 nightly resort fee plus tax, which guests say makes the advertised rate look lower than it is. Parking is free. Keep track of pool towels, because a missing one costs $22.
Good to know: Recent reviews mention stains, musty rooms and worn carpet, and the live bands can be heard from some rooms. Isla Grand is not on Booking.com, so compare it on Expedia or Hotels.com.
Skip It If: you want a pool warm enough for toddlers outside summer, or a freshly renovated room.
South Padre takes seventh on our national toddler list. Vehicles are allowed on some stretches of sand here, which is exactly the kind of thing we screened for in our best beach towns for toddlers.
